Super Bowl - Go Packers

The Soil Stud and I went to the greater Dallas area a few weeks ago for the Super Bowl!  We did not attend the game, but Soil Stud and his buddy wanted to be in the atmosphere of the game!  Soil Stud is a huge Green Bay Packers fan, his parent were born and raised in Wisconsin and his dad purchased season tickets in the 60's.  Of course, his family still has those season tickets today!  Soil Stud wouldn't even take me to a game until I took his last name!  We met Soil Stud's friend who now lives in San Antonio.  They are quite a pair!

All men really need is beer and brisket!

Our first full day was Friday, this is how Dallas greeted us!
Snow on cactus just ain't right!

Thank Heavens I brought my snow boots!
If you squint your eyes really hard, maybe you can see my knitted Green Bay hat.  It was the envy of the town!  (At least that's what the voice inside my head kept telling me.)
One thing I LOVE about Texas is wherever you go, you always encounter cattle, even if they are statues.  I really, really LOVE cows!
This is me at the NFL Experience!  I think I kind of look like Clay Mathews here (I just need a little longer hair.)  Packer's fans would get the joke!
Now my Indiana peeps, don't fear I'm still a Colt's Fan, Packer's are my #2 team.  I took this pic for my mom.  She loves Peyton Manning probably more than I love my cows.  That's a lot of love, people!

By Saturday and Sunday the sun came out and melted all the snow away.   We went to the JFK memorial.  This is the road where President Kennedy was assassinated.
After the Packers won the Super Bowl, we drove out early the next morning with our bag of goodies!

Valentine's Day

The Soil Stud and I decided to enjoy a quiet evening at home on Valentine's day.  We planned to spend the night whispering sweet nothings in each others ears.  Or NOT!  Actually, soil stud planned to watch TV and I planned to knit on my second pair of socks!  Of course, we planned to spend time with our kitty, Lily.
Lily is a major snob and instead of sitting on our laps enjoying our affection, she would rather jump out from under the bed and attack us.   The more love we give her, the more detached from us she gets.  Valentine's Day is her LEAST favorite holiday.  Anywho....more on the unending saga of Lily for another time.

About 4 PM I received a phone call from our neighbors.  Keep in mind that in the first 5 houses on our road, 4 of the 5 houses are people who are retired.  (We are the 5th house!)  They are all very kind and we are so fortunate to live where we do.  In fact, the neighbors who had us over would come over to our house when we were remodeling it and would help paint our house while we are at work.  Seriously, there is no one nicer than them!    Anywho...our neighbors invited us over for pizza from the local pizza shop in town.  We gladly accepted the invitation.

So at 6:20 the Soil Stud and I walked down the road to our neighbor's house for pizza and pecan pie!  Two couples celebrating Valentine's day, one couple about to celebrate 5 years of marriage and the other couple about to celebrate 50 years of marriage.  I really treasure spending time with couples who have been married for decades and decades.  So much can be learned about love and respect by just watching them interact. This couple is a wonderful example for others.

We made it home by 9:30, our bellies full of pizza, pecan pie, and laughter!

My First Post!

My first post, what pressure!  What does one say?  Will I come across OK?  Let's hope!  I am hoping my blog will be a way for me to remember my life as well as connect with other people.  I am horrible at keeping a journal.   I just don't want to look back at my life and wish I had recorded more about all of the loves of my life:  husband (the soil stud - more on that later),

I love this picture of my soil stud.

my family (it's very Everybody Loves Raymond),
A rare picture of my parents dancing.  They aren't known for their dancing!

my animals (we will get into that),

and my hobbies.

I will attempt to keep my blog and more importantly my life, all-around balanced!

Until next time,
Abby
